HBAL awarded our 2019 Scholarships at our Annual Tribute to Youth dinner on April 15 at Yankee Hill Country Club. There were two scholarships awarded. Fatima Ayal, a senior at Lincoln High who attends the Career Academy in the Building Construction pathway, received a renewable scholarship worth $250/semester for up to 3 semesters at Southeast Community College in Milford. Fatima is active in SkillsUSA and is an assistant at Coffey & Co. Fatima enjoys working with her hands, working on small projects and building things. Last year she represented Nebraska in the National SkillsUSA competition and won top 10 in the Job Skills Demonstration. Someday she would like to walk by a home and proudly say, “I built that.” She has a vision for her future to open her own renovation company to work on homes in Lincoln. Bryce McGill, a senior at Norris High School, received the $1,000 Lincoln Home Builders Care Foundation President’s Scholarship. The President’s scholarship is awarded to a student who has a parent or other relative who is a member or employed by a member of HBAL. Bryce is the son of Mike & Kelly McGill with Timber Ridge Homes. Bryce will be attending the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Bryce has always been around construction, going to jobsites after school with his dad or helping him during the summer with many different projects. Bryce’s father and grandfather influenced his decision to pursue construction. His father taught him to take pride in making the best product you can. Business isn’t always easy, but the challenge is something he enjoys. Congratulations to both winners!
