I cannot believe I am writing my message for the July edition. Where did the time go? Wasn’t it just April a couple weeks ago? I think the gradual changes to normalcy in our community have helped the time fly by. I am beginning to get back to my normal routine and I am feeling hopeful we will be able to move ahead with the events we have planned in the next couple of months. Mark your calendar for the YBP Hard Hat Happy Hour on July 16, the HBAL Family Fun Night on August 7 and Remodelers Golf on August 28. These events will be a chance to build community among friends and family you may not have seen since the pandemic began.

We have received positive feedback on the Spring Parade of Homes. We are thankful we were able to have the homes open for the public to tour and the virtual tours were an added bonus! With postponing the Spring Parade, it will make for a quick turnaround for the Fall Parade. Watch your mailbox for entry and ad contracts which are due July 24. Although we are busy making plans for many of our events, we did make the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Tour of Remodeled Homes.

I would like to thank Matt Kinning, Erin Magnussen, Denny Van Horn, Mike Rezac, Shawn Stranathan, Tom Brinkman and Tom Hardesty who worked to update the 2018 International Energy Code (IEC). They spent many hours this spring meeting to go over new requirements in the code and worked with the Building & Safety Department, the Mayor’s office and City Council to add five amendments to our local code. Their hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated. The task force updated energy codes put in place in 2009 and new energy codes being applied will decrease the cost of building which will benefit all of us. Thank you again for the time you spent to help our HBAL community.

I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming events we have scheduled. Until then I hope everyone stays positive and healthy!
