I found this quote recently and thought it was appropriate to share since we live in Nebraska:

“Don’t knock the weather; nine-tenths of people couldn’t start a conversation if it didn’t change once in a while.”  -Kin Hubbard

In April alone, we experienced warm 80s and sun, cold 40s and rain, strong winds, thunderstorms with large hail and a very random snow storm. I guess it’s now safe to say: “April showers,* bring May flowers (*hail, thunderstorms, strong winds, rain and snow)”!?

Besides our beloved Nebraska weather constantly changing, our businesses have had to change as well. I have been listening to webinars with topics focused on how businesses in our industry are adapting during this time and it is really impressive to hear that most of us are still remaining successful and finding ways to stay afloat. I won’t sugarcoat it, change is difficult for anyone especially when it’s unplanned and we’re forced to adapt. During this time of uncertainty, please don’t be afraid to reach out to your colleagues or even your ‘competition’ and lean on each other for support and advice. We have to be in this together.

Now more than ever, we should be marketing and advertising our services on social media. Post those ‘sneak peek’ pictures of your Tour of Remodeled Homes entry or Parade of Homes house on your social media accounts. Teach your followers the difference between luxury vinyl tile and porcelain tile. Or just make it personal by sharing a picture of your takeout meal from a local restaurant with the hashtag #SupportLocal. Our future customers are waiting for us to help them with their projects as soon as we return to a new normal. The most efficient way to make your business stand out right now is through social media. Homeowners are literally stuck in their homes checking social media and using their ‘less than desired’ kitchens, bathrooms, makeshift home offices and basements every day. It is important to keep your social media accounts fresh and continue to showcase your professional skills. I truly believe once this over, we will be stronger than ever!

Our upcoming YBP Light the Way 5K is still planned for June 27 at Holmes Lake. Spread the word! We are actively looking for participants, volunteers and sponsorships. Contact the HBAL office if you are interested. The next YBP Hard Hat Happy Hour has been rescheduled to July 16 at the Build DCB office. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our next YBP event!

Please continue to check your e-mails and HBAL social media accounts for updates. Take care of yourselves and stay healthy!
