March 2019 President’s Message
by Kelli Fleek, YBP President
What a great start to the new year! We just wrapped up with the 2019 Home and Garden Show. It was wonderful to see all of you who participated in the Show. Your involvement is much appreciated.
Our calendar is full this year. One professional development opportunity you don’t want to miss is our first 2019 Midday Meetup on Tuesday, March 5. Shane and Sunny Photography will be at the HBAL office taking professional head shots for just $90. What an awesome way to take advantage of this and market yourself this year!
A new event to the YBP calendar this year is assisting with the Lighthouse Prom. On Tuesday, March 14 we need volunteers to help with dinner preparation and to assist in taking photos of the Lighthouse youth as they attend the Lighthouse Prom. Lighthouse has become a great mentoring program for our youth and we really appreciate your participation. If you’re interested in any of these upcoming events please contact the HBAL office or me. I look forward to continuing to grow our YBP membership and working with all of you!
YBP & The Lighthouse
In 2017, the YBP Council formed an amazing partnership with The Lighthouse which has been very fulfilling as we work to provide a positive influence in the kids’ lives. In June 2017, we held our inaugural Light the Way 5K which raised $800 for The Lighthouse. Other activities have included an ice cream social, workdays to powerwash and stain their pergolas, celebrity judging of their annual salsa tasting competition and a game night.
Food Bank of Lincoln BackPack Program
In 2016, the YBP Council began collecting free-will donations at their events to be given to the Food Bank of Lincoln’s BackPack Program. To date, the group has given over $695 to this great cause.
