Tell us about your family. | Lauri and I have been married for 26 years. Lauri is instrumental in our interior design choices. Our son, Zach, works for Scheels in Chandler, AZ as the baseball/softball department manager. |
Name a recent movie you watched that blew you away? | “Day by Day” a movie about the glory days of Husker football. |
What are you currently binge watching? | Chicago Fire and SWAT reruns as there were no new shows this fall. |
Best restaurant you’ve ever been to? | Kristofers in the old Riviera Casino in Las Vegas |
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? | The Thanksgiving feast |
Favorite place you’ve traveled? | Lake Tahoe |
What did you want to be when you grew up? | Concrete Finisher |
Where are you from? Where did you go to school? | Born and raised here, attended Lincoln East and graduated from SCC Milford with a degree in Diesel Construction Equipment Technology. |
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? | I was born on my mom’s birthday. |
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done? | Cracking open a beer at 9 am in the rail yard with my wife, brother and sister-in-law on a Saturday Husker game day. |
If you could have a super power, what would it be? | Change today back to the mid-80s forever. |
When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time? | Watching Husker football or volleyball or visiting family out of state. |
Who is someone who’s made a big impact on your life? Why? | My dad. He took the time to teach me the construction trade over 30 years ago, as he spent his entire career in residential or commercial construction. |
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? | John Dunkin, he flies our former president everywhere in a pretty sweet 757. |
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? | General George S. Patton |
What do you/did you love the most about your job? | We recently completed our first custom build. It was super fun to watch our owners’ ideas come together. The finished product is completely different than what we have done to date. |
What experiences and past roles have led you to where you are today? | After selling my concrete construction business of nearly 25 years, I knew corporate America or working for someone wasn’t going to make me happy. I enjoy watching our clients move into an amazing build that hopefully is their forever home. |
What career advice do you live by? Who gave it to you? | “Retain what you learn today. You may not use it tomorrow, next week or next year, but someday you will.” Thanks Dad! |
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Why? | Donn Mann, I did his concrete work for 20 years. Donn is the finest and nicest gentleman you’ll ever meet. I don’t think he ever had bad day or said anything bad about anyone. |
What’s one skill you’d like to develop or sharpen this year? | To become more computer literate with today’s technology available to us as builders. |
What are your future goals and aspirations for your career? | Continue building homes without having to sacrifice quality for the cost of construction. |

How has your career benefited from being a member of HBAL? | Denny Van Horn got me to join HBAL, as we built across the street from one another two years ago. He always answers any questions if I need advice. |
What is your favorite HBAL event and why? | Careers in Construction Day. It’s today’s students we so desperately need for the future of our industry. |
Any tips or advice for new HBAL members? | Get involved in a committee that suits you the best. Meeting and building new relationships is incredibly rewarding |
