How do you define success?
I recently attended a leadership roundtable with other business development managers, and one simple yet powerful question was posed: “How do you define success?”
It gave me pause, not because I didn’t have an answer, but because the answer can be deeply personal and evolving. If you ask a high school student, they may respond with money or material items as a measurement of success. If you ask an 80-year-old, they may respond with relationships as a measurement of their success. My point is that everyone defines success differently, and it may change over time.
In our fast-paced construction industry, we often tie success to numbers and dollars: permits pulled, homes sold, profit margins met. But for those of us in the home building community, success runs deeper than metrics.
Success is the satisfaction of seeing a once empty lot transform into a place where families will create lifelong memories. It’s a young couple holding keys to their first home. It’s a neighborhood filled with lights, laughter and life. All built from the ground up with purpose and care.
At HBAL, I believe our members define success not just by what we build, but who we build for and how well we serve them. We are proud to be part of a profession where success is measured in homes, not just houses.
