Tell us about your family. I have been married to my wonderful husband Kile for just over two years. I have a son named Will who is 11 years old and keeps us on our toes with his fun personality and sense of humor! We share our home with a very furry / feisty Yorkipoo named Max.
What would be the theme song of your life right now? At this very moment – “Beautiful Day” by U2
What are you currently reading or listening to? I am loving the book The Soul of Money by Lynne Twist.
Name a recent movie you watched that blew you away? Origin. It’s gut wrenching, but so important to be informed on the facts of what people are forced to face.
What are you currently binge watching? Land of Women on Apple TV. It’s fun to watch in Spanish.
Best restaurant you’ve ever been to? Kile took me to an amazing French seafood restaurant Le Bernardin in NYC in 2019. It was course after course of some of the most amazing seafood dishes in the world then three courses of dessert to finish off the night. The whole experience was perfection!
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? That’s so tough. I love food and I’m overthinking this because I’m trying to figure out what would be yummy but nutritious (ha ha). I do love Indian food!
Favorite place you’ve traveled? Another tough one! Will, Kile and I went to Costa Rica in June. It was amazing! I studied abroad there 20 years ago and it is such a gorgeous country. However, it has to be tied with Italy. I am in love with that country!
What did you want to be when you grew up? An Interior Designer
Where are you from? Where did you go to school? I am from Lincoln and I went to Lincoln Southeast then Nebraska Wesleyan University.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? Two pictures of me were in the National Geographic when I was a teen. The local photographer, Joel Sartore, was doing a spotlight on life in Nebraska so he followed my detasseling crew around. I’m covered in mud in the pics and a hot mess!
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done? My sister says it was when I was studying in Costa Rica. My travel buddies and I had rented hammocks on the beach to sleep on for the night. There was a huge crab right by my face, so I decided to try to sleep on a nearby bench. When I walked up, there was a dog sleeping on the bench. I tired to shoo him away, but he wouldn’t budge. So I scooted him down a bit and laid down. A few hours later I woke up to the sun rising and the dog was still cuddled up by my feet!
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? My singing voice 😉 ha
If you could have a super power, what would it be? Relentless energy
When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time? I love spending time with my guys and my extended family. I enjoy working out and yoga. We love traveling and planning the next trip. I love cooking and hosting. I love going on excursions with my son, Will!
Who is someone who’s made a big impact on your life? Why? My mom. She has this quiet calm wisdom about her. She has supported me and believed in me every day of my life, no matter what.
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? Beyoncé – her life would be fun to live for one day.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? Oprah – she rocks!
What do you love the most about your job? I love building relationships with my clients and working with my team to make sure our clients are well taken care of. Then it is incredibly rewarding when we get to see the finished space and to see how happy the clients are!
What experiences and past roles have led you to where you are today? I was a lighting design specialist and Project Design Manager before starting my Interior Design Business 10 years ago.
What career advice do you live by? Who gave it to you? I genuinely care about customer service and making each client feel like they are a priority. I would say in general I learned how to be a caring person from my mom and grandma.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be? Why? Joanna Gaines – I admire her and she seems down to earth.
What’s one skill you’d like to develop or sharpen this year? I would love to learn how to use the rendering programs my amazing team members are able to use for our clients. People love seeing real life renderings of projects to fine-tune selections!
What are your future goals and aspirations for your career? Continue to grow the business and keep up with the latest technology.
How long have you been a member of HBAL? For 10 years.
How has your career benefited from being a member of HBAL? I appreciate that we have HBAL in Lincoln and I love the Parade of Homes. It’s always an honor to be able to design a home for the Parade!
What is your favorite HBAL event and why? This is reminding me that I need to keep up and prioritize going to events again. With an active 11 year old and busy business, it’s hard to make time!
Any tips or advice for new HBAL members? HBAL can be a great networking tool and I like the community building aspect of it!
