Tell us about your family. My husband, Kip, and I have been married for 33 years and we have three grown children. Our daughter, Logan, is 28 and is a contract administration specialist; our daughter, Aubrey, is 25 and works as a staff accountant; our son, Garrett, is 21 and is in his senior year at UNL studying architecture. We feel lucky to have all 3 still living in Lincoln and get to do what we enjoy most: spend time with our kids.
What would be the theme song of your life right now? “Good Life” by OneRepublic.
What are you currently reading or listening to? Quicksilver by Callie Hart.
Name a recent movie you watched that blew you away. Not recent, but 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
What are you currently binge-watching? My last binge was The Last Kingdom on Netflix.
Best restaurant you’ve ever been to? An Italian restaurant in the Underground in Atlanta, GA. I don’t remember the name, but I stumbled upon it twice—eight years apart—and it was delicious both times!
If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? Fried chicken with gravy, rice and fried green tomatoes—finished with a slice of strawberry rhubarb pie!
Favorite place you’ve traveled? Anywhere with family. Canada for the Women’s World Cup was especially fun.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A doctor.
Where are you from? Where did you go to school? Born and raised in Holdrege, NE—went through all grades as a Duster. I started college at Kearney State and graduated from UNK.
What’s something unique or interesting about you that most people don’t know? I have a really good memory—especially for song lyrics (but not passwords).
What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done? Installed a light fixture while standing on a ladder that was standing on a dining room table.
What’s your greatest talent that you don’t utilize at work?I use my best talents for work but, most of my math abilities are untapped at work.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be? “Winnowing”—the ability to transport myself and others instantly to another location.
When you’re not working, how do you enjoy spending your time? Reading.
Who’s made a big impact on your life, and why? Roger Reynolds. He took a chance on me and hired me on the spot. He’s always shown confidence in my abilities and allowed me to grow professionally without restraints.
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? Probably a curator at Versailles—I’d love to see it without any tourists!
If you could have dinner with one famous person, past or present, who would it be? Leonardo da Vinci.
What do you love most about your job? I love problem-solving.
What experiences and past roles led you to where you are today? Everything, big and small, leads us to the present. My original college advisor refused to support my change of major, which led me to a new advisor—someone who was instrumental in my decision to become a kitchen designer.
What career advice do you live by, and who gave it to you? “You can’t make some people happy, so don’t try to.” — Experience!
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be and why? Thomas Jefferson (if he were alive). His design of Monticello is inspiring, and I’d love to work on a project like that.
What’s one skill you’d like to develop or sharpen this year? I should probably learn to use AI more frequently.
What are your future career goals or aspirations? I plan to keep doing what I love until I retire—but I’d also like to train others to do what I do.
How long have you been a member of HBAL? 23 years through Reynolds.
How has your career benefited from HBAL membership? I’ve met many industry partners who are great sources for assistance, ideas and camaraderie.
What’s your favorite HBAL event and why? The Christmas Party—it’s different every year, but always entertaining.
Any tips or advice for new HBAL members? Get involved and say “yes” when you’re asked to serve.
